Bill Harris was an American jazz trombonist born on October 28, 1916, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He passed away on August 21, 1973, in Hallandale, Florida. Early in his career, Harris collaborated with notable musicians such as Benny Goodman, Charlie Barnet, and Eddie Condon. He was known for his broad, thick tone and quick vibrato, which characterized his playing throughout his career. In 1944, he joined Woody Herman's First Herd and later became a member of the Four Brothers Second Herd during the late 1940s. He reunited with Herman in the 1950s and also worked with Charlie Ventura and Chubby Jackson. In 1959, he became a prominent member of Benny Goodman's group alongside Flip Phillips. Harris later performed in Las Vegas before retiring to Florida.
