Bill Laswell is an American bassist, producer, and record label owner, as well as the owner of a studio in West Orange, New Jersey, since 1997. Born on February 12, 1955, in Salem, Illinois, he was raised in Albion, Michigan, and was previously married to an Ethiopian singer. Laswell is recognized as one of the most prolific musicians, having participated in hundreds of recordings with artists from around the globe. His music encompasses a variety of genres, particularly funk, world music, jazz, dub, and ambient styles, while also venturing into the more aggressive realms of hardcore punk and metal.
