Bill Perkins was an American jazz tenor and baritone saxophonist, clarinetist, and flutist, born on July 22, 1924, in San Francisco, California. He passed away on August 9, 2003, in Sherman Oaks, California. Perkins played with notable bands and artists throughout his career, including Jerry Wald from 1950 to 1951, Woody Herman from 1951 to 1953, and Stan Kenton from 1953 to 1954, before rejoining Herman in 1954. In the 1960s, he worked in studios, also taking on the role of engineer. From 1974 to 1977, he was part of the Toshiko Akiyoshi-Lew Tabackin Big Band.
