Billy And The Essentials is a doo-wop and rhythm 'n' blues group hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. They began their musical journey singing on the streets of Philadelphia in 1959. The group has been led by its mainstay lead singer, although the background members have changed over the years. Early members of the group included Pete Torres, Johnny Caufield, Jimmy Brown, and Bill Neiman. By 1961, the lineup featured Pete Torres, Mike Lenihan, Johnny Caufield, and Phil D'Antonio.
