Billy Grammer was an American country singer, songwriter, and guitarist, born on August 28, 1925, in Benton, Illinois. He passed away on August 10, 2011. A member of the WSM Grand Ole Opry, Grammer was signed by Monument Records in Nashville, Tennessee, where he achieved significant success with his million-selling single "Gotta Travel On." In 1965, he co-founded the RG&G (Reid, Grammer & Gower) Company with Clyde Reid and J.W. Gower, which produced the Grammer guitar until 1968. His guitar was later installed in the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville on March 1, 1969. Grammer delivered the invocation for the Grand Ole Opry House opening on March 16, 1974. In 1990, he was inducted into the Illinois Country Music Hall of Fame alongside notable artists such as Tex Williams, Lulu Belle and Scotty, and Patsy Montana. On February 27, 2009, he was honored by the Grand Ole Opry for his 50-year membership.
