Billy Preston was an American keyboardist, singer, and songwriter known for his work in rhythm & blues, soul, funk, and gospel. Born on September 2, 1946, in Houston, Texas, he was primarily raised in Los Angeles, California. He passed away on June 6, 2006, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Preston had a successful career as a solo artist, winning a Grammy Award, and collaborated with many prominent figures in the music industry. He played the Fender Rhodes electric piano and the Hammond organ during the "Get Back" sessions in 1969. Notably, he and one other individual are the only non-Beatles to receive billing as an artist alongside the Beatles on an official record release, with the label of the "Get Back" single crediting the artists as The Beatles with Billy Preston. In 2021, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Musical Excellence Award. He was the son of an unnamed individual and the half-brother of another unnamed person, with another family member also mentioned.
