Billy Taylor was an American bop and hard bop pianist, educator, composer, and band leader. He was born on July 24, 1921, in Greenville, North Carolina, and began his career in 1944. Taylor passed away on December 28, 2010, in New York City, New York. It is important to note that he should not be confused with the swing bassist and composer known for "Finesse," as they are not related despite both having played with notable musicians.
