Billy Walker was an American country singer and guitarist, born on January 14, 1929, in Ralls, Texas. He was best known for his 1962 hit "(I'd Like To Be In) Charlie's Shoes" and earned the nickname "The Tall Texan." Over his nearly 60-year career, Walker had more than 30 charted records and was a longtime member of the Grand Ole Opry. He passed away on May 21, 2006, in Fort Deposit, Alabama, along with his wife, when the van he was driving back to Nashville after a performance in Foley, Alabama, veered off Interstate 65 and overturned.
