BJ the Chicago Kid, born Bryan James Sledge, is an American singer and songwriter hailing from Chicago, Illinois. He is renowned for his collaborations with Top Dawg Entertainment artists such as Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, and Jay Rock, as well as with other prominent rappers including Freddie Gibbs, Warren G, Nekfeu, Big K.R.I.T., GLC, and Kanye West. Sledge began his music career in 2001 by co-writing a track for Dave Hollister titled "For You." His vocals gained recognition in 2006 when he was featured on Kanye West's single "Impossible," which promoted the film Mission: Impossible III. In February 2012, he released his debut studio album, Pineapple Now-Laters, independently. Later that year, in August, he signed a record deal with Motown, which released "Good Luv'n," a song from his debut album, as his commercial debut single.
