Black Flag was one of America's first hardcore punk bands, emerging from Southern California to gain international prominence. They became a major attraction in various cities with punk scenes and played a crucial role in the development and popularization of American punk music. Founded in 1976 by guitarist and songwriter Greg Ginn and vocalist Keith Morris, the band was initially called Panic before adopting the Black Flag name a few years later. Ginn remained the only constant member until the band's dissolution in 1986, following their exploration of the intersection between punk and heavy metal. Over the years, Black Flag underwent numerous personnel changes, leading to various spin-off bands. In 2003, Ginn briefly resurrected Black Flag for a series of benefit shows for cat rescue organizations, featuring contributions from both old and new members, though reactions were mixed. In January 2013, Ginn announced the relaunch of the band with vocalist Keith Morris, who was the second of four vocalists to pass through the group during its initial run, aiming for extensive touring and new recordings. Concurrently, former members Chuck Dukowski and Bill Stevenson, along with guitarist Stephen Egerton, launched a project to perform Black Flag's music.
