Black Moses is a South African pianist and keyboardist, born on July 15, 1958, in Dube Village, Soweto, South Africa. He is recognized as a pioneer of Mbhaqanga music, particularly for incorporating soul organ elements into the traditional genre. His musical career began as a guitarist and drummer in his older brothers' band, Crocodile Rock. In 1974, he formed a partnership with talent scout and producer Hamilton "Vala" Nzimande at Isibaya Esikhulu Records/The Gallo Company, where he served as a staff keyboard player. During this time, he met Themba "American" Zulu, who would later become the guitarist for the Soul Brothers. Ngwenya also collaborated with Usizwe Namatshitsi and Izintombi Zesimanjejemamje. He achieved significant recognition in his field, setting a record for SAMA Award wins with 12 victories in the "Best Mbhaqanga Album" category.
