Black Savage was a short-lived Afro Rock group from Kenya that emerged in the mid-1970s. The band consisted of young college-age members, including Barrack Achieng on bass, Job Seda (also known as Ayub Ogada) on percussion, Noel Drury Sanyanafwa on drums, Jack Odongo on keyboards, and Gordon Ominde (known as Golden Simone) on guitar. Most of the members were from the Luo tribe. Although their music gained popularity among Nairobi's youth during the 1970s, it remained largely unnoticed outside of Kenya until a recent reissue brought it to light, aided by the internet. Black Savage released an LP and three singles between the mid-'70s and early '80s, but their work has been out of print since then. The band's early years, during which the members met in secondary school in Nairobi, are well documented in the liner notes of the current reissue compilation by Afro7.
