Black Symbol is a roots band hailing from Birmingham, UK, active since around 1978 and continuing to the present day. The band is led by "Fatman," who should not be confused with other individuals of the same name, including a Jamaican producer or the one associated with the 'Fatman Riddim Section.' It is important to note that Black Symbol is distinct from 'The Symbols,' known for tracks like 'Misunderstanding,' 'Motherless Children,' and 'Black Man's Words.' As a strictly UK-based roots band, Black Symbol also operated a small record label of the same name for a brief period. Although rarely seen outside their native city, their limited vinyl output has achieved a legendary status among serious roots collectors. Their catalogue consists of around six singles and two compilation albums, each featuring a couple of tracks.
