Blood, Sweat & Tears is an American jazz-rock group formed in 1967 in New York City, known for their unique blend of brass and rock band instrumentation. The band has undergone numerous iterations with varying personnel and has explored a multitude of musical styles throughout its history. They gained significant recognition at the 1969 Grammy Awards, winning Album Of The Year and Best Contemporary Instrumental Performance for "Variations On A Theme By Eric Satie." The original founding members of the band included Randy Brecker (trumpet, flugelhorn), Bobby Colomby (drums), Jim Fielder (bass), Richard Halligan (keyboards, trombone, flute), Steve Katz (guitar, harmonica, lute, mandolin, vocals), Al Kooper (keyboards, vocals), Fred Lipsius (alto sax, piano), and Jerry Weiss (trumpet, flugelhorn). The band name is presented as Blood, Sweat & Tears on their album covers.
