Blue Öyster Cult is a hard rock band from Long Island, New York, formed in 1971. The band's origins trace back to 1967 with a psychedelic group called Soft White Underbelly, which included members Albert Bouchard (drums), Allen Lanier (keyboards, guitar), Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (guitar), Andy Winters (bass), and Les Braunstein (vocals). After Braunstein's departure in 1969, Eric Bloom joined, and the band was renamed The Stalk-Forrest Group. Eventually, Winters was replaced by Albert's younger brother, Joe Bouchard. The band released their debut album in 1972, with all members contributing to songwriting, although many lyrics were provided by external collaborators, including Sandy Pearlman, poets, and a science fiction author. Eric Bloom served as the primary lead vocalist, while Donald Roeser sang some of the band's most iconic songs, including "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," "Godzilla," and "Burnin' For You." The Bouchard brothers also contributed lead vocals. Their most successful studio album, "Agents Of Fortune," was released in 1976 and featured "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." Following a decline in commercial success in the late 1970s, the band experienced a resurgence with the 1981 album "Fire Of Unknown Origin." After this release, Albert Bouchard was fired but returned temporarily in 1985.
