Blue Öyster Cult is a hard rock band from Long Island, New York, formed in 1971, although its roots trace back to 1967 with a psychedelic group called Soft White Underbelly. The original lineup included Albert Bouchard (drums), Allen Lanier (keyboards, guitar), Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (guitar), Andy Winters (bass), and Les Braunstein (vocals). After Braunstein's departure in 1969, Eric Bloom joined, and the band changed its name to The Stalk-Forrest Group. Following the firing of Winters, Albert's younger brother, Joe Bouchard, was brought in. The band released their debut album in 1972. While all members contributed to songwriting, many lyrics were provided by outside sources, including Sandy Pearlman and various poets and science fiction authors. Eric Bloom served as the primary lead vocalist, while Donald Roeser sang some of the band's most famous songs, including "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," "Godzilla," and "Burnin' For You." The Bouchard brothers also contributed lead vocals. Their most successful studio album, "Agents Of Fortune," was released in 1976 and featured "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." After experiencing a commercial decline in the late 1970s, the band found renewed success with 1981's "Fire Of Unknown Origin."
