Blues Control is a Philadelphia-based duo consisting of Lea Cho and Russ Waterhouse, known for their unique blend of keyboard, guitar, and tape music. Initially formed in New York City, their music reflects a love for both classic rock and avant-garde influences, evolving into a diverse creative outlet over time. The duo began their journey after spending two years creating new age music under the name Watersports, eventually performing their first Blues Control show in 2006. Since then, they have toured extensively across North America, the UK, Japan, and continental Europe, performing in a variety of venues including galleries, living rooms, museums, discos, and DIY spaces. They have opened for notable acts such as Animal Collective, Cluster, and Henry Flynt, created an alternate soundtrack for Lewis Klahr's Five O'Clock Worlds, and even played for third graders in Oakland. Their influence extended to the art world, inspiring Octavius Neveaux's 2009 solo painting exhibition at Cinders Gallery. Blues Control released their first two full-length albums, Puff (Woodsist/Fusetron) and Blues Control (Holy Mountain), in 2007, followed by a holiday-themed 7" as part of Sub Pop's Singles Club in 2008. In the summer of 2009, they released their third album, Local Flavor (Siltbreeze), which received critical acclaim and ranked highly on several year-end lists.
