Bob and Earl were a soul music singing duo, best known for recording the original version of "Harlem Shuffle" in 1963. The original line-up consisted of Bob Relf (b. 1932) and Earl Nelson (b. 1928). Both members had previously been part of a Los Angeles doo-wop group whose major hit was "Buzz-Buzz-Buzz" in 1958. In 1960, Relf and Nelson began working together as 'Bob & Earl', but their early releases saw limited success, prompting Relf to resume his solo career. In 1962, Nelson brought in a second "Bob" to the duo, and they recorded several singles for different labels before achieving modest success in America and a major hit in England with 'Harlem Shuffle', produced by an unnamed producer.
