Bob Dorough was an American bebop and cool jazz pianist, composer, and vocalese singer, born on December 12, 1923, in Cherry Hill, Arkansas. He passed away on April 23, 2018, in Mount Bethel, Pennsylvania. Throughout his career, Dorough collaborated with notable figures such as Miles Davis and Allen Ginsberg. He released a variety of vocal jazz albums over the course of 50 years, but he is perhaps best known for his role as a voice and primary composer for many songs featured in Schoolhouse Rock!, a series of educational animated shorts that aired on Saturday mornings in the 1970s and 1980s on ABC affiliates in the United States. His songs have been covered by various artists. Dorough's daughter is a classical flute player.
