Bob Marley and The Wailers is a Jamaican reggae band originally formed as a vocal group, featuring Bob Marley along with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. They later added a rhythm section consisting of members from other groups. In 1974, after the departures of Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer, producer Chris Blackwell renamed the group Bob Marley & The Wailers and marketed it as a rock band, combining a vocalist with an instrumental band. Following Bob Marley's death in 1981, The Wailers continued to record with various artists. Some members of The Wailers went on to form another group in 1989.
