Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys were a pioneering western swing band founded in 1933 in Waco, Texas, after Bob Wills left another group. The band remained active until 1965 and reunited for a final recording session in 1973 with an ailing Wills. They were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1968 and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an "Early Influence" in 1999. Over their lifetime, more than 600 artists played with the Texas Playboys, and several spin-off groups achieved notable success on their own. After the initial breakup in 1965, the band briefly performed as The Texas Playboys, led by another member. They reunited again from 1973 to 1986 until the death of their pianist. At that point, others purchased the rights to use the name Bob Wills' Texas Playboys from Betty Wills and continued touring. The original lineup included a fiddler, a pianist and vocalist, a steel guitar player, a tenor banjo player, and a bass/rhythm guitar player. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee lineup featured multiple fiddlers, a vocalist, a steel guitar player, a guitarist, and a pianist. The final lineup selected by Wills for the 1973 reunion included a leader, several fiddlers, a steel guitar player, an electric guitarist, a pianist, a bassist, and a drummer.
