Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys was a pioneering western swing band founded in 1933 after Bob Wills left another group. The band remained active until 1965, reuniting for a final recording session with an ailing Wills in 1973. They were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1968 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as an "Early Influence" in 1999. Throughout their career, more than 600 artists played with the Texas Playboys, and several spin-off groups achieved notable success. After the initial breakup in 1965, the band briefly performed as The Texas Playboys, led by another musician. They reunited again from 1973 to 1986 until the death of their pianist. At that point, other musicians purchased the rights to the name Bob Wills' Texas Playboys from Betty Wills and continued touring. The original lineup, founded in Waco, Texas, consisted of a fiddle player, a piano/vocals performer, a steel guitar player, a tenor banjo player, and a bass/rhythm guitar player. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee lineup included various fiddle players, vocalists, a steel guitar player, a guitarist, and a pianist. The final lineup, selected by Wills for the 1973 reunion, featured a leader, several fiddle players, a steel guitar player, an electric guitar player, a pianist, a bassist, and a drummer.
