Bobby Byrd was born on August 15, 1934, in South Carolina, U.S.A., and passed away on September 12, 2007, in Georgia, U.S.A. He was a long-time collaborator and one of the founders of The Famous Flames, having taken James Brown into the band, with whom he made history through a series of hits that extended into the 1970s. Byrd rejoined Brown for several recordings, including "Sex Machine," "Talkin' Loud & Saying Nothin'," and "Get Up, Get Into It, Get Involved." He also achieved solo success with hits like "I Know You Got Soul." Byrd faced a long battle with cancer before his death at the age of 73. He is not to be confused with Bobby Day of The Hollywood Flames.
