Bobby Cole was an American jazz singer, pianist, composer, arranger, and artist, born on September 8, 1932, in New York City, New York. He grew up in Astoria, Queens, and after serving in the US Army, he returned to New York to begin his career. He initially worked with a group known as the Bobby Cole Band, which consisted of musicians he knew from Astoria. Throughout his career, Bobby collaborated with various artists, including working for years with a jazz drummer. Cole served as a musical arranger for The Judy Garland Show, succeeding another arranger, and conducted the orchestra for Garland's 1967 "Palace" concerts and album. He also held the position of conductor and musical director on her last tour. Bobby Cole passed away from a heart attack on December 19, 1996, in New York City, at the age of 64, near the Upper East Side trattoria "Campagnola," where he had worked since 1992, concluding a four-year tenure.
