Bobby Lyle is a US jazz and soul jazz pianist and keyboardist, born on March 11, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee. He grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and currently resides in Houston, Texas. In the 1960s, he began playing keyboards and was set to join a jazz rock group, but the project was canceled due to Jimi Hendrix's death. Prior to this, he played with several artists, including a band led by a notable figure in the industry. After releasing three albums with a label that eventually closed its jazz division, he returned to session work. Throughout the 1980s, Lyle toured with various musicians. His session work led to an introduction to a vice president of Jazz and Urban music at a prominent label, where he released six albums up until 1997.
