Bobby Paris was a blue-eyed soul singer born and raised in New York City, hailing from a Puerto Rican family. He began his musical journey in 1956 with a local doo wop group called the Golden Keys. Paris released his debut single "Rockin' Concerto" in 1960 under the Indigo label, followed by "Dark Continent" in 1961 on the Magenta label. Over the years, he moved between various independent labels, releasing tracks like "Is It You" with Jolar in 1962, "Are You the One" in 1963 with Jairick, and "Love Passed Me By" in 1965 with Chattahoochee. His most significant hit came in 1966 with "Night Owl," a song based on a melody he composed at the age of five, which helped keep his label Cameo/Parkway financially stable. Paris later signed with Capitol Records, debuting there with the ballad "I Walked Away" in 1967, and also worked as a producer, co-producing Bobbie Gentry's classic "Ode to Billie Joe" that same year. He released "Per-So-Nal-Ly" and "Bye, Bye Blackbird" in 1968, and a rendition of "Let the Sunshine In" in 1969.
