Bobby Troup was an American actor, jazz pianist, singer, and songwriter, born on October 18, 1918, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, USA. He passed away on February 7, 1999, in Los Angeles, California, USA. Troup was married to his second wife, a singer, from 1959 until his death in 1999. He is best known for writing the popular standard "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66" and for his role as Dr. Joe Early in the 1970s US TV series "Emergency!" Throughout his career, Troup charted as a songwriter in the U.S. eleven times and four times in the U.K. between 1941 and 2007. He achieved his first #1 hit with "Daddy" by Swing and Sway with Sammy Kaye in 1941. In 1946, he reached #11 (#3 R&B) with "(Get Your Kicks On) Route 66" performed by The King Cole Trio. His next notable song was "Clumsy" by Fergie from "The Dutchess," which hit #5 overall, #89 R&B, and #62 in the U.K. Additionally, covers of "Route 66" charted four more times, and covers of "Daddy" charted two additional times.
