Bochum Welt is the stage name of Italian electronic musician Gianluigi Di Costanzo. The name combines the German word for "world" (welt) with the name of a high-powered astral telescope. Di Costanzo gained recognition with his first single, "Scharlach Eingang," released in 1994 on Aphex Twin's Rephlex label, which led to speculation in the British music magazine NME about him being a ghost project of Aphex Twin. Over the years, he released eight records on Rephlex and contributed tracks to the label's compilations. His debut album for Sony Music Japan, "Module 2 / Desktop Robotics," showcased early works, followed by the double CD "Robotic Operating Buddy," which was nominated as a top 15 electronica album by The Wire in 2009. In the same year, he signed a long-term worldwide publishing deal with BMG. In 2013, Rephlex released his full-length album "Good Programs (To Be Coloured in Yellow)" and a collaborative EP with Heinrich Muller, which received recognition from Fact magazine. His 2017 album "April" was one of the official Record Store Day releases, published by Studio K7 and BMG.
