Bohren & Der Club Of Gore is a dark jazz band formed in 1992 in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, by members of various grindcore, hardcore, and death/doom metal bands. They sought to create a "unique sound," leading to the development of what they describe as "doom ridden jazz music." Initially named "Bohren," the band expanded its name in 1993 to "Bohren und Der Club of Gore," inspired by a Dutch band that influenced their instrumental music approach. In 1995, the name was changed to "Bohren & Der Club of Gore." Their first significant release was a demo tape titled "Luder, Samba und Tavernen" in 1993. The current lineup includes Morten Gass (electric guitar, vocals, piano, electric organ, synthesizer, Moog synthesizer, mellotron, Fender Rhodes electric piano, 8-string bass, vocoder, baritone guitar, and drums), Robin Rodenberg (bass guitar, double bass, and drums), and Christoph Clöser (saxophones, piano, Fender Rhodes electric piano, vibraphone, and drums). Former members include Reiner Henseleit (electric guitars) and Thorsten Benning (drums, percussion).
