Boney M. was created by a German producer and initially featured him performing all vocals for their first single, "Baby, Do You Wanna Bump" (1975). The group was formed to provide a performing troupe for television appearances, leading to the most well-known lineup of Marcia Barrett, Bobby Farrell, Liz Mitchell, and Maizie Williams. Reggie Tsiboe replaced Farrell in 1982. The group is best known for their 1978 hit "Rivers Of Babylon" and enjoyed consistent chart success in Germany and Europe from 1976 to 1984, producing million-selling albums and numerous hit singles such as "Daddy Cool," "Ma Baker," "Rasputin," "Mary's Boy Child," "Malaika," and "Kalimba de Luna." Farian announced the end of Boney M. as a recording group in 1986, but several singles and new tracks have appeared on various 'best of' compilations since then. The members have continued to perform in their own formations, with the exception of Tsiboe and Farrell, who passed away in 2010.
