Booker Newberry III was an American singer and keyboardist, born on January 19, 1956, in Youngstown, Ohio, and he passed away on April 5, 2023. He was a member of the Philly soul group Sweet Thunder, known for their hit "Baby I Need Your Love Today" and several moderately successful albums on the Fantasy label. After his time with Sweet Thunder, Newberry briefly joined the dance group Impact before launching a solo career. He signed with Neil Bogart's Boardwalk label and worked on his solo debut with producers Bobby Eli and Nick Martinelli, leading to the international success of his song "Love Town." Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Newberry continued to record, although with less success, eventually landing on the Malaco blues label.
