Bryan Hollon, known by his stage name Boom Bip, began his musical journey before 1992, immersed in guitars, drums, and pianos while listening to cassette tapes from Sonic Youth, Bowie, Hendrix, and Prince. Seeking something new, he purchased turntables and started exploring original hip hop sample material from classic jazz and funk albums found in Cincinnati thrift stores. In 1993, he launched his own radio show and began DJing at coffee houses and small clubs. His first record was released in 1996 with Mush Records after gaining recognition through his local shows. Boom Bip achieved a breakthrough in 1998 with the album "Circle," collaborating with a rapper that caught the attention of the legendary John Peel on BBC Radio, leading to two Peel Sessions. In 2001, he signed to a sublabel, and in 2002, he released his first record on Lex, which allowed him to perform at larger festivals such as Glastonbury, Pukkelpop, and Coachella. He has also produced successful remixes for various artists and has a project with Gruff Rhys.
