Bored Stiff, also known as B.S. or The Stiff, is an internationally recognized hip-hop group known for their classic underground sound that blends samples and ideas like a collage. Formed in 1992 in the Fillmore area of San Francisco, the group consists of 12 members, including Equipto, Big Shawn, TD Camp, Mint Rock, White Mic (Brussel Sprouts), Dubstar (Rick Flare), P-Way, Ike Plump, and Julz, among others. Throughout the 1990s, they recorded countless tapes that introduced many early hip-hop listeners to the genre. They released two classic EPs, "Explainin" and "Timeless," on their label Hella Records, which have since become high-priced collector's items. The production by TD Camp and Big Shawn, along with contributions from the rest of S.A.D Productions, is considered some of the best from the West Coast in the early 90s. After the passing of member Jo Jo, the group had a sporadic output into the 2000s, releasing "Ghetto Research," followed by "From The Ground Up," "The Sad Truth," and "Now More Than Ever." Despite changes in membership with each album, Bored Stiff consistently delivered strong, energetic, and conscious lyrics about everyday life.
