Boubacar Traoré, born in 1942 in Kayes, Mali, is a celebrated singer, songwriter, and guitarist, known by the nickname Kar Kar, which means "the one who dribbles too much" in Bambara, a nod to his soccer playing. He is a self-taught guitarist who has developed a distinctive style that merges American Blues music, Arab music, and the pentatonic structures characteristic of West Africa's Mande cultural region.
