Bourbonese Qualk is an experimental music group that originated in Southport, UK, in 1979, founded by Simon Crab and his brother Ted. The duo aimed to create music rooted in a DIY anarchistic spirit. In 1982, after relocating to a squat in London, they welcomed Julian Gilbert and Steven Tanza into the band. The group operated the Ambulance Station, an open cultural space that served as a studio, rehearsal area, exhibition venue, and printer workshop, under the Recloose Organisation banner. Julian Gilbert departed in 1985 to pursue other interests, while Steven Tanza focused on music and art projects around 1986. From that point on, Owen If (Rossiter) on percussion and multi-instrumentalist/guitarist Miles Miles became core members, joined by significant contributions from Kif Cole. The band remained true to their roots, maintaining full control over their music, image, and graphics, while continuing to publish and tour on their own terms. Bourbonese Qualk officially disbanded in late 2002 following the death of member Miles Miles.
