Bow Wow Wow is an English new wave group formed in 1980 following the demise of another band. The original members were previously part of this earlier group. Under the guidance of Malcolm McLaren, they recruited a young singer named Myint Myint Aye, who was later renamed Annabella. The band is known for their distinctive sound, characterized by Burundi-style drumming and Annabella's vocal style, which ranged from screaming to ritual chants. They achieved early success in the UK after signing with RCA and had a minor hit in the US with their cover of "I Want Candy," originally by The Strangeloves. Their debut US LP was released in 1982, which stirred controversy due to its cover featuring the young singer nude while the rest of the band was clothed. Bow Wow Wow disbanded in 1984, with Annabella pursuing a solo career and the remaining members forming a new group called Chiefs Of Relief. The band reunited in some capacity during the mid-1990s.
