Boyd Bennett was an American rockabilly songwriter and singer born on December 7, 1924, in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He passed away on June 2, 2002, in Sarasota, Florida. Throughout his career, Bennett often collaborated with other songwriters. He achieved chart success five times with songs he and/or his group performed. Notable songs include "My Boy - Flat Top," co-written with Young, which charted three times in 1955-56, reaching #39 in the U.S. with Boyd Bennett and his Rockets, #16 in the U.S. by Dorothy Collins, and #20 in the U.K. by Frankie Vaughan. He also co-wrote "Seventeen," which peaked at #72 in the U.S. in 1961, performed by Frankie Ford, and "Boogie Bear," which reached #73 in the U.S. in 1959, performed by Bennett himself. Additionally, his group charted with "Blue Suede Shoes" in 1956, reaching #62 in the U.S., a song originally written by Carl Perkins.
