Brad Osbourne, originally from Jamaica, moved to the north Bronx in 1969, where he began operating an electronics repair shop. He became a significant figure in the NYC reggae community by retailing imported records from his store, Brad's Record Den. In the 1970s, he started licensing and distributing Jamaican recordings and expanded into production by establishing several labels. Brad was responsible for a considerable output of reggae releases in the USA, often re-dubbed, and he successfully recorded visiting Jamaican artists while producing new music with local talent. In the 1980s, he also founded a hip-hop imprint. Sadly, Brad passed away in 1986 following an argument with a customer in his record store, and his business passed to a Canadian label.
