The Brain Police were a psychedelic rock band from San Diego that emerged in the late 1960s. They recorded an unreleased album and a single between 1968 and 1969 before disbanding. Their music featured a blend of psychedelic rock, hard rock, and baroque pop influences, sharing some similarities with the band Steppenwolf, with whom they toured in the Southwest. However, the Brain Police had a lighter sound and did not produce any hit songs comparable to Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild" or "Magic Carpet Ride." After failing to secure a major-label contract, the band disbanded during a local gig where they opened for Steppenwolf. Their unreleased LP was later reissued on CD by Normal/Shadoks, along with songs from a 1969 single and earlier pop tracks from 1964-1966 by the Man-Dells and the Other Four, bands that Brain Police songwriters Norman Lombardo and Rick Randle were part of prior to 1967.
