Brainiac was an indie rock band from Dayton, Ohio, active from the early 1990s until 1997. The group is remembered as one of independent rock's most tragic stories. They were in the process of recording a new album and were on the verge of signing a major label contract, gaining recognition as one of the most exciting outfits of the post-grunge era. Tragically, singer Tim Taylor was killed in an accident on May 23, 1997, while driving alone from the studio, marking the abrupt end of the Brainiac era. In 1997, Brainiac released the EP "Electro Shock For President" and began work on their fourth album, which was never completed. The EP showcased the band's potential to expand their sound into the electronic arena. Since the disbandment, the surviving members have remained relatively quiet, with Schmersal being the only member to form a new group.
