Brainticket was a Switzerland-based Krautrock band that emerged from a 1960s jazz group, featuring Belgian-born keyboardist Joel Vandroogenbroeck, who remained the only constant member until his death in 2019. The band is recognized as pioneers of early European psychedelic and cosmic music, particularly during their peak in the early 1970s, known for their use of exotic instruments and jazz-inspired compositions. Originally named after their 1970 single, the band adopted the name Brainticket by 1971 with the release of their debut album, which featured British vocalist and sparked controversy due to its association with psychedelic drugs. The album included a warning label stating, "only listen once a day to this record. Your brain might be destroyed," leading to its ban in several countries. Following the death of guitarist, Vandroogenbroeck relocated to Italy, where he met American Carole Muriel. Along with Swiss musicians Rolf Hug, Martin Sacher, and percussionist Barni Palm, they released 1972's Psychonaut, a more accessible and song-oriented album. This was followed by a rock opera collaboration, Orfeo9, and the 1973 album Celestial Ocean, which narrates the journey of after-life Egyptian kings through space and time, earning acclaim as the definitive Brainticket experience. After releasing Adventure in 1980 and Voyage in 1982, the band disbanded, with Vandroogenbroeck recording
