Breakwater was a funk and soul band formed in 1971 in Philadelphia, disbanding in 1980. The group was known for their slow jams, while also incorporating rock and funk styles into their music. Their manager was Sr., the father of band member Kae Williams Jr., who wrote the classic doo-wop hit "Get a Job" by The Silhouettes. The band featured keyboard prodigy Kae Williams Jr., who was just 15 years old at its formation, alongside lead vocalist and trumpeter Gene Robinson, bassist Steve Green, drummer James “Gee” Jones, guitarist Lincoln “Zay” Gilmore, percussionist John “Dutch” Braddock, and woodwinds players Vince Garnell and Greg Scott. Many of the initial members met during their school years. Breakwater was signed to Clive Davis’ Arista Records and released two albums: their self-titled debut 'Breakwater' in 1978 and 'Splashdown' in 1980, the latter being referred to as a funk masterpiece. Their notable tracks include "No Limit," "Say You Love Me Girl," and "Release The Beast," the latter of which regained popularity in 2005 after being sampled by the electronic duo Daft Punk in their hit "Robot Rock." In 2009, Breakwater reformed with five of the original members: Gene Robinson Jr. (lead vocals), Jimmy Jones (drums/vocals), John "Dutch" Braddock
