Brett Smiley (September 25, 1955 – January 7, 2016) was an American singer-songwriter known for his involvement in the UK glam rock scene of the early 1970s. He released a single titled "Va Va Va Voom" and performed on the Russell Harty television show, showcasing his song "Space Ace." Smiley began his career as a child actor, notably playing the title role in "Oliver!" on Broadway in 1965. In 1974, he received a $200,000 advance to record an album titled "Breathlessly Brett," which was managed and produced by Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, featuring guitar work from Steve Marriott of the Small Faces and Humble Pie. However, after "Va Va Va Voom" failed to chart, the album was shelved and remained unreleased until 2004. In 1977, he took on the role of Prince in the American erotic musical comedy "Cinderella" and appeared in Paul Schrader's "American Gigolo." After overcoming past struggles with drug addiction, Smiley continued to record and perform primarily in New York City until 2015. He passed away on January 8, 2016, after a prolonged battle with HIV and hepatitis.
