Brian and Tony Gold are a Jamaican reggae and dancehall duo hailing from Portmore, Saint Catherine Parish. Although often mistaken for brothers, the pair is unrelated. They first crossed paths in 1986 at the Tastee Talent Contest, where Brian won and Tony placed second. Recognizing each other's talents, they decided to collaborate as a vocal team. Their initial work began in a studio, leading to the formation of their stage name, 'Brian and Tony Gold.' In 1987, they gained recognition in Jamaica with the song "Ebony Eyes" on the Red Rock label, followed by hits like "What's Your Name" and "Bull's Eye" for Jammy, as well as "Sweet Baby" on another imprint. After being produced by Mikey Bennett, they released the chart-topping tracks "Poison" and "Can You." This success led to a deal with Pow Wow Records in New York City, where they were featured on the Pow Wow album GREENLIGHT. The duo also toured with Dennis Brown during the 1990 Reggae Sunsplash US Tour. Their major breakthrough came with the song "Number Two" and the collaboration "Compliments On Your Kiss," produced for Island Records, which reached number two on the British Pop charts for four weeks. This success resulted in appearances on the Top of the Pops television program and their first music video.
