Bridget St John, born Bridget Hobbs on October 4, 1946, in South London, is a British singer and songwriter renowned for her three albums recorded between 1969 and 1972 for John Peel's Dandelion label. Her debut album, "Ask Me No Questions," was produced by Peel. St John gained recognition through numerous BBC Radio and Peel sessions and had a significant presence on the UK college and festival circuit. In 1974, she was voted the fifth most popular female singer in the Melody Maker readers poll. An accomplished guitar player, she considers John Martyn her guitar mentor. Her second album, "Songs for the Gentle Man," was produced by Ron Geesin, followed by "Jumble Queen," released by Chrysalis Records in 1974. In 1976, she emigrated to Greenwich Village and largely stepped back from the public eye for over two decades. She resurfaced at a Nick Drake tribute concert in New York in 1999, performing "Northern Sky" and "One of These Things First," and toured Japan in 2006 with minimalist French musician Colleen. In addition to her solo work, Bridget St John has collaborated with artists such as Mike Oldfield on "Amarok," Kevin Ayers, and Robin Frederick.
