Brighter Side of Darkness was a short-lived American R&B/soul group formed in 1971 at Calumet High School in Chicago, Illinois. The group featured 12-year-old lead singer Darryl Lamont, along with members Ralph Eskridge, Randolph Murph, Larry Washington, and Albert Vanderlier Roberts. They achieved significant success with their single "Love Jones," released in December 1972, which reached #16 on the US Hot 100 and #3 on the Hot Soul Singles chart, earning a gold certification by the RIAA on February 9, 1973. The group also released an album titled "Love Jones" in 1973. Their follow-up single, "I Owe You Love," did not achieve the same level of success. Notably, "Love Jones" was parodied as "Basketball Jones" by Cheech and Chong in 1973, which also became a hit, reaching #15 on the Hot 100. The group faced management disputes that led to a breakup in the 70s but reformed to release one final single for the Magic Touch label in 1978 before disbanding permanently.
