Jack McDuff, born Eugene McDuffy on September 17, 1926, in Champaign, Illinois, was an American jazz organist and band leader. He began his career in the 1950s as a pianist and bass player before transitioning to the Hammond B-3 organ. In the 1960s, McDuff formed his own band, which included a saxophonist, drummer, and a young guitarist. Throughout the 60s and 70s, he released several albums on various labels, showcasing his signature organ sound. In the late 1970s, he shifted to synthesizers and continued to release albums, but later returned to the organ for his 1988 comeback album. At the time of his death on January 23, 2001, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, McDuff had just completed recording his final album.
