Buck-Tick, originally formed as the cover band 非難Go-Go (Hinan Go-Go) in 1984, began in Takasaki city, Gunma prefecture. The original lineup included singer Araki, drummer Atsushi Sakurai, guitarists Hisashi Imai and Hidehiko Hoshino, and bassist Yutaka Higuchi. They performed many early Buck-Tick songs before renaming themselves to Buck-Tick (爆竹; pronounced "Baku-Chiku", meaning firecracker) during the summer of 1984, while Araki was still with the band. They played their first live show as Buck-Tick on August 4, 1985, at the Shinjuku Jam after relocating to Tokyo. After Araki's departure following a show on November 8, 1985, Atsushi Sakurai became the new vocalist, and Toll Yagami, Yutaka's older brother, joined as the new drummer. Their first performance with this lineup occurred on December 4, 1985, at the Shinjuku Jam. The band's lineup has remained unchanged from 1985 until October 19, 2023, when vocalist Atsushi Sakurai passed away. Additionally, while not a member, a contributor has been involved with every album since 1992's "殺シノ調ベ This Is NOT Greatest Hits" and is regarded as Buck-Tick's unofficial sixth member.
