Buckshot, whose real name is Kenyatta Blake, is a Brooklyn-born rapper renowned as the leader of an influential hip-hop collective and a founding member of a notable group. He emerged in the early 1990s as a key figure in the underground hip-hop scene, making his debut with Black Moon’s classic album, Enta da Stage, in 1993. This album, characterized by its raw production and gritty lyricism, played a significant role in defining the New York boom-bap sound and shaping the 90s underground movement. Beyond his work with Black Moon, Buckshot expanded his influence as the head of Duck Down Music, an independent label he co-founded, which became home to various acts. His leadership helped establish Duck Down as a powerhouse for independent hip-hop throughout the 90s and 2000s. As part of his collective, he contributed to albums like For the People (1997) and The Last Stand (2006), showcasing his ability to unite and advance a group of highly skilled MCs. Buckshot is also a member of several other groups, further cementing his legacy as a versatile and respected artist. Over the years, he has collaborated with numerous hip-hop legends and has released joint projects with 9th Wonder, including Chemistry (2005) and The Formula (2008), demonstrating his adaptability to different production styles while maintaining his signature delivery and lyricism.
