Buddha Brand (ブッダ・ブランド Budda Burando) is a Japanese hip-hop group formed in 1988 in New York City. The group consists of rapper and producer members, including Dev Large and DJ Master Key. Initially performing under names such as Uwasa no Channeru and Numb Brain Buddha Brand, they settled on the name Buddha Brand in 1990. During their time in New York, Dev Large and DJ Master Key regularly DJed at various clubs in Brooklyn, including Gorilla's Den and Soul Powers. Buddha Brand returned to Japan in June 1995 and released several recordings between 1996 and 2000. The band disbanded but posthumously released one last album in 2019 following the passing of founding member Dev Large in 2015. CQ and Nipps have since continued their careers in the music industry.
